Downhill State Champion

By bill at 8:50 am on Wednesday, August 15, 2007

While the rest of us were riding on the pavement, Lev Stryker, owner of Cog Wild Bicycle Tours and an original member of the TAI Cycling Team, was down at Willammette Pass hitting the steep dirt.

Lev ran really well on his first run and tried to go faster on his second, “But I made some mistakes and blew out a couple corners,” he said.

His first run was good enough to win his Expert Men’s 30-39 class. Two State Champs in one day!

T-Shirt Design Contest

By bill at 10:58 am on Tuesday, August 14, 2007

I’d like to get some team t-shirts printed up this fall. If you’re artistic and want to help come up with a cool design, download this template and send it back to ‘bill at taicycling.com.’ Here’s a PDF with some TAI logos. You can print, cut and paste, work on the computer, or freehand them… Logo Sheet.pdf

I was thinking of a ringer t-shirt, like this one as our base:

But if you have other ideas, send them my way. I’ll post all the designs here so we can all vote on our favorites!

Criterium Specialists

Spencer Bushnell won the cat3 Crawfish Criterium and Tim Jones won the cat3 State Criterium Championships this weekend!

Monica Freeman won the cat4 Crawfish Crit on Saturday and finished 3rd at the women’s cat4 State Race. She’s been working on her upgrade to a cat3 for a while now and she attributes her success in criteriums to riding on the tandem with her husband, Mike, “because it’s more aggressive and really helps with cornering.”

We had a great time at this event for the 3rd year in a row! Thanks to the organizers for putting on a technical crit with good prizes and beautiful weather… Click on a photo to see the rest in the gallery.

Cascade Cycling Classic

By bill at 11:08 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2007

The 2007 CCC was a great success for TAI! We had our first rider complete the PRO/1/2 race: Matt Lieto did a great job fighting out there to finish stage 6 with the top pros in the country. We also had riders in the Masters and 3’s and 4’s.

Scott Gray was doing really well in the 3’s until he crashed in the downtown crit, which sent him to the hospital for stitches. You can see in the photo below Sean Passage narrowly avoiding a crash. It was a tight course with lots of riders hitting the pavement.

Elkhorn Classic

By bill at 9:08 am on Monday, June 25, 2007

There were 4 of us in the Elkhorn Cat3 race this year and the first stage turned out to be a good one for us. With 2 guys slightly off the front in the last couple miles, Spencer Bushnell led the attack in the main field through the awful headwind and uphill grade to the finish. At 1km to go he was the only one working. We almost caught the break at the line and I would have done a bit better if I’d waited 50m longer before sprinting, as I was in 4th until I got swarmed at the line.

I was 9th that day with Spencer in 15th. Sean and Erik were close behind. Sean Passage had a great TT and moved up to 8th in the GC. The TT course was the best one they’ve had at Elkhorn, with rolling terrain, no traffic and a really nice tailwind on the way home.

Taking Risks

By bill at 11:27 am on Monday, June 11, 2007

The State Championships for the Cat3’s were yesterday in Eugene and we had 7 of us in the field. In mile 5 or so, Sean Passage attacked on a small roller and found himself a few hundred meters out front without much effort. I decided to roll out with him for a bit, so I bridged up. A few minutes later we saw 2 people chasing us down. Jason Riffle (River City) and Spencer Bushnell. Now there were 4 of us and 3 from our team. We decided to go for it.

Bend Team photo at the Wednesday Crit

By bill at 11:14 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2007

The Wednesday Crit series started up in town today so we gathered up a lot of the team for a photo before the race. It was silly how many of us there were out there racing tonight. It was hard to make a move without bumping into a teammate about to do the same thing. How do you avoid chasing down your teammate when over 30% of the field is on your team?

Nice job to Derek making the break with Larsen, though!
